Our Story
For Foodies that enjoy their Heritage
Inspired by my family roots, we are proud to share my grandparent’s heritage and bring you The Bo-Kaap Malay.
From a journey that started in The Bo-Kaap formerly known as the Malay Quarter, where skilled Muslim labourers that were initially imported from Malaysia, Indonesia, and different parts of Africa by the Dutch, my grandparents as tailors, married, and settled in Cape Town. With great grannies cooking that passed on to my grandmother and then to my mother, out sprung a delicious melting pot of Spiced curries, Hertzoggies, Koesusters, and Pastei.
When my mother moved to Durban, she decided to turn her family heritage into a business and started selling her Cape Malay bakes on Sundays door to door. It was definitely a milestone in our family. With lots of patience and adherence, we would like to share this heritage with you and hope you appreciate and enjoy her tradition of Cape Malay cooking.
